This Chini ka Rauza tomb is dedicated to Allama Afzel Khal Mullah Shukrullah of Shiraz, who was a Persian poet-scholar and later the Prime Minister of Shah Jahan. Built in 1635 AD, this beautiful tomb derives its name from the tiles or chini that were used to decorate its wall and ceilings. This mausoleum is in fact a classic example of the Persian influence on Mughal architecture of that period. Situated at a distance of less than one kilometer north of Itimad-ud-daulah this beautiful but neglected structure is topped with an Afghan-style bulbous dome and is easily distinguishable as Agra's sole Persian construction. Parts of the walls are still covered with the colored enamel tiles (chini) that gave the tomb its name, while traces of paintings and Islamic calligraphy can still be discerned on the high domed ceiling. On the top of the dome you can see some Quranic texts inscribed on it.
The Chini ka Rauza used to have elegant gateways, towers and a ghat by the Yamuna. Unfortunately, all that remains of this structure is the main tomb, which is also in a state of utter neglect.
