Tripura is shares borders with Bangladesh on the north, south, and west. There are a number of stories behind the origin of the name 'Tripura'. The debate is still on. According to the most popular legend, it is named after an ancient king named 'Tripur' who ruled over this territory.

Agartala
A pleasant little town, Agartala is the capital of Tripura. It has lush green landscapes with buildings scattered around the town. The Ujjayanta Palace is an ancient building which now is the State Legislature. Open to visitors when the Assembly is not in session, it has magnificent ceilings and a grand architecture. There are many temples in Agratala like the Laxmi Narayan and the Jagannath Temple.
Wildlife Sanctuaries and Parks
A number of opportunities for eco tours exist with the wildlife sanctuaries in Tripura. Sepahijala Wild Life Sanctuary, Tepania Eco Park (Udaipur), Trishna Wild Life Sanctuary (Belonia), Gumti wildlife sanctuary (Amarpur) and Rowa wildlife sanctuary (Dharmanagar) are the major ones. The Jampui Hills in Kanchanpur is the highest mountain range in the state. bExcellent landscapes and cool, pleasant climate are wonderful for the tourists.
