Camel Festival In Bikaner


The Indian state of colors and royal splendor, Rajasthan is one of the most lively and vibrant places to enjoy a vacation or to plan a trip.

WHEN
Organized by the Department of Tourism, Arts and Culture, every year in the month of January, the festival is full of fun, frolic and fascination. The festival lasts for 3 continuous days.

WHAT
In the deserts of Bikaner, mesmerizing herd of giant, beautiful camels, all decked up and well fed are brought for various activities, like tug of war, dance and acrobatics and best breed competition, all of which include camels of course. The sight of beautifully ornamented animals, moving on the tunes of their trainers is an outstanding sight for all the tourists gathered at the event.

WHERE
The red sandstone made Junagarh Fort provides a brilliant backdrop for the entire procession and hustle bustle, majestically bringing the two traits of Rajasthan together, heritage and culture. Artists come from across the country to display their talent along with their animals' talent, in the shining sand of Bikaner.

ATTRACTIONS
If you think that all you are getting to see is, the animal dance, then that is not the case, as you will also be treated with the typical folk dances and music of Rajasthan. Just prepare yourself with an arty rendezvous amidst the skirt swirling dancers, Kalbelia performances, and the fire dance, all with dazzling fireworks above the royal fort in the background. Along with camel dances, there are various races also, which produce a splendid sight with the golden desert spreading dust storms in the sky, with the running footsteps of the camels. You can also enjoy camel rides in a moonlit night, and get a worldly experience.

MEMORABILIA
Along with the ordinary Rajasthan cuisine, you can have a taste of the special festival dishes, sweets, tea and other products made by camel milk and you also can buy it. Also buy the miniature camel figures of wood, lac or black metal, decked with mirror work, and other handicrafts and souvenirs. The likes of the special costumes and jewelery that the participants wear for the festival, can also be bought from the surrounding stalls, which are affordable and act as a perfect reminiscence of a golden experience.
