Mount Abu, the only hill station in the desert state of Rajasthan, is a heaven for tourists visiting Rajasthan. Mount Abu is located in the southwestern Rajasthan, close to the borders of Gujarat. It is located at a distance of about 185 km from Udaipur, 221 km from Ahmedabad, 264 km from Jodhpur, 500 km from Jaipur and 765 km from Delhi. Set amidst enchanting lush green surroundings of Aravali hills at an altitude of 1,220 m above the sea level, Mount Abu offers much-needed relief from the heat and dust of Rajasthan during summers.

Mount Abu enjoys a cool and pleasant climate all round the year with temperatures hovering between 21?-33? C during summers and between 0?-20? C during winters. It receives the highest amount of rainfall in Rajasthan. The monsoon season is from July to mid September. The average rainfall during this season is 70-180 cm. The best season to visit Mount Abu is from February to June and October to December.

History of Mount Abu

According to a legend, Mount Abu derives its name from Mount Arbud, when the youngest son of Himalaya, along with the assistance of a snake called Arbud flooded the gorge in the area with water to save sage Vashishta's cow Nandini.
Mount Abu was once under the rule of the Chauhan dynasty and later served as summer retreat for the Rajputs. Later, the British made it their summer resort to escape the heat and dust of Rajasthan.

Mount Abu is not only famous for its exceptional scenic beauty, but also has one of India's most spectacular sights, the 11-13th century Jain Dilwara Temples. This group of five marble temples is situated on a hll 3 km north-east of the town. This picturesque hill resort never fails to charm its visitors with its natural beauty and amazing temples. How to Reach Mount Abu

By Air: Udaipur (185 km) is the nearest airport from Mount Abu. From there, you can hire a taxi to get to Mount Abu. Regular flights connect Udaipur to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Lucknow.

By Rail: Abu Road (29 km), situated on Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Ajmer-Jaipur-Delhi route is the nearest railhead from Mount Abu. From Abu Road you can take a taxi, jeep or bus to reach Mount Abu.

By Road: Mount Abu is well linked by a good network of roads to Udaipur (185 km), Ahmedabad (222 km), Jodhpur (235 km), Jaipur (510 km) and Delhi (767 km).
