Royal Wedding in Rajasthan

Royal Wedding in Rajasthan

Rajasthan, the land of brave and romantic Rajputs, is well known for its royal, customs, traditions and practices. The people of Rajasthan are famous for their love for color and liveliness and like to celebrate their weddings in a royal way. In fact, nowhere else is a wedding as likely to be more romantic or royal than Rajasthan.

A royal wedding in Rajasthan recreates the regal ambience of the era gone by. It is an occasion when everyone, along with the bride and groom, truly think themselves royal. The settings and decorations of the marriage venue are done in such a way to create a medieval grandeur and regal charm. Dressed in brilliant and expensive sherwani and a colorful turban, and carrying the traditional sword, Rajput groom rides to bride's house on a white mare, accompanied with a large barat (marriage procession). Beautifully adorned with embroidered lehenga, ethnic jewelry and hennaed palms and feet, the radiant bride awaits the arrival of the groom under a brilliantly decorated veil.

On arrival at the venue, the marriage procession is greeted with garland and sprinkling of rose petals and rose water followed by Nagada (traditional drums used for all the auspicious occasions). The bride's family makes royal arrangements for feast and entertainment of guests. The royal wedding ceremony is solemnized in a beautifully decorated mandap, where bride and groom exchange garlands and perform seven circles around the holy fire. After the marriage rituals, the bride starts for groom's house. It's a tearful occasion for bride's family. On bride's arrival at groom's house, colorful ghoomar dance program is held. Arranging or attending a royal wedding celebration in Rajasthan promises to be a wonderful experience for visitors.
