According to the Hindu mythology, in the great battle between Gods and Demons, for the elixir, which was carried by the divine bird, Garuda, the elixir was believed to be spilt here, making it one of the most sacred places for Hindus, and the exact spot is called Brahma Kund. The ghat is illuminated with lights in the night and prayers are said.

Haridwar and Rishikesh are not too big on a shopper's list, but they say that every place has something unique about it. Best time to visit Haridwar and Rishikesh:
Due to the proximity of these places to Himalayas and northern hills, they tend to get really cold in the winter season, making a trip not as comfortable and enjoyable as in summers. So you must try a holiday here during March to June.
How to reach Haridwar and Rishikesh:
By Plane-
For Haridwar you can reach Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is only 20 k ms away from Haridwar, while Rishikesh is only 15 k ms away from the airport, making your journey comfortable.
By Train-
Haridwar has its railway junction, which has trains from major cities including Delhi, and it also has trains gong to Rishikesh. As Rishikesh's train services are a little slower,  you can reach Haridwar and then continue from Bus.
By Road-
The road links are the best, easiest and the fastest mode to reach Haridwar and Rishikesh. You will be able to get brilliant views of the scenery while also have a comfortable ride. Delhi is 230 k ms away from Haridwar and takes 5 to 7 hours through the road, you can try this route.
